FROM TSUNAMI TO AN ECO LIFE

When Tsunami stuck on the boxing day of 2004, peaople down coastal Sri Lanka lost all their hopes. But fortunatly few civil sciety organizations in Sri Lanka launched carefully planned programmes to rehabilitate those affected.  Sarvodaya - country's premier civil service movement layed their hands on an ECO VILLAGE project. 53 Tsunami affected families live in harmony growing organic vegetables and sharing their crop while youth playes a lead role in solid waste management. KARUNA - CHILDREN FIRST

KARUNA is a film on Sri Lankan refugees. The ethic conflict in Sri Lanka is more than 50 years old. But the violence reached its peak in 1983 July killing thousands of Tamil minority using brutal methods of torture. Ever since the so called Tamil Freedom Movement took a different turn taking revenge in a more brutal fashion. Nearly two years ago they bombed a bus that killed 80 innocent civilians. i went to the same village with my camera to listen to their story. It was very moving. i thought i must narrate this story in Sinhala. But please note that this film only represent one side of the story. i am now in making of the EVEN sad story of innocent TAMIL & MUSLIM kids in the North and East of Sri Lanka. CELEBRATING HUMANITY

This little video clip is a tribute to those men, women & children who shed their hearts out to build a non-violent n just society. Sarvodaya is celebrating 50 years of selfless service to the humanity. Their programmes are scientifically planed. Well throughout execution mechanics are indigenous and easy to implement yet professional. SHRAMADANA - GIFT OF LABOUR

Shramadana is sanskrit word. Means gift of labour. Mahathma Gandhi gave it a new meaning during his freedom strugle in India involving millions of people to gift labour in irradicating poverty. In Sri Lanka Sarvodaya movement's founder Dr. AT Ariyaratne adopted the similar concept but in a more elaborate manner. From the inception of the movement Shramadana became the key activity in removing the causes of suffering. He urged people to gift what ever is possible to uplift the down trodden societies be it physical or metal energy. Past few months i travelled with Sarvodaya youth peace brigade Shanthisena to far remort villages to capture their activities. This short video i dedicate to those vibrant youth who fearlesly embrced their brothers and sisters from the war zone North and East. GOD BLESS CHILDREN

In 1977 Sri Lanka's newly elected UNP government introduced Free trade. Multinationals walked into the country freely and introduced not only their brands but also sub cultures. When market place got flooded advertisers went on rampage. Nonsensical advertisers are totally responsible for today's greed based society.They Coca Colonized the country and 

Mc Donalized capital Colombo. Heroin and other killer drugs were introduced and youth were forced to live in fantasies. Today even ten year old school kids have access to any kind of drugs [FREELY]  through their agents. Recently i went on looking for such kids. i visited country's one of the four correctional centres to talk to them. i also visited Colombo's slums to interview parents of those juvenile kids. Their story is not hopeful at all. i am keeping many things to my self in order to safe guard their identity. This short video clip is only a rice grain of their story. BHAVANA - PRISON MEDITATION

Sarvodaya ~ Sri Lanka's premire social service movement is in the fore front in conducting meditation courses for prisoners. Every month meditation masters visits the Colombo prison and stay with inmaets for three days teaching them numerous techniques. Twice  a year all four thousand prisoners take part in a mass meditation in the courtyard of the main jail. Current Commissioner General of Prisons Major General Wajira Wijegoonawardene is one rare soul who belives in a spiritual solution to many social ill wills. i was there last time. ONE PEACE

This short video is dedicated to those white clad non violent peace lovers who attended the One Peace meditation and prayer on the 21st of September 2008. This event was organized by a group of compassionate people from Detroit area. They worked tirelessly for months to make this event a reality. Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne founder ~ President of the Sarvodaya Movement of Sri Lanka led the meditation. Rev. Michael and Ricky Byers Beckwith of AGAPE international spiritual centre - LA, mesmerized the audience with their beautiful singing and timely prayers.
